Mud Pies

This is the last of four small scale (8″ x 8″) square paintings that I’ve worked on. The size lends itself to certain subjects, but this seascape muddied up too quickly and I missed using my big brushes to create shapes. Moving forward, I intend to work on larger paper. The two fishermen have about as much detail as I feel they need—and I loved painting them—but look forward to having more real estate to develop figures in a landscape. And I discovered post-its as the perfect way to mask off areas when splattering and flinging paint to create shells.

Each painting is a learning situation…
