Coney Island Monday: toward Brighton

The beach scene has quieted down

Again, here’s that little sliver of white land between the sky and the background and the ocean that I wanted to explore with this painting. The beach, now closed to swimmers, was easier to capture without a lot of people, and I saw the wavy edge of surf meets sand as a fun compositional element to use. I wanted to paint the guy walking along as a loose, gestural image and think he came out well. He’s got a bit of a swagger, as does the sandpiper in the foreground.
